The Cuttingsville Times
The Cuttingsville Times (CT) began in Jackson, Michigan in 1984 as a mostly biannual cut-and-paste zine. Editor (and head-writer) Jim Dwyer took matters into his own hands to see his work, and that of his poet & artist friends, in some kind of print. Photocopies were distributed through record stores and handed out at concerts. A listing in the legendary magazine Factsheet Five allowed distribution from coast to coast. A relocation from Michigan to Washington, D.C. in 1985 meant that The Cuttingsville Times was a semi-regular freebie at many a punk show at various venues across town. A return from D.C. to Michigan (Ann Arbor) just as the Iran-Contra scandal was shattering the despised Reagan administration meant that CT got more political than it had ever been. For various reasons, publication ceased in 1990. We are thrilled to be able to bring you this relaunch in 2021. Archive editions will be found here as well as new content.
CT is primarily a journal of commentary, poetry, satire and cultural assemblage culled from a variety of print sources. Writers and artists in CT back-issues are credited throughout, but all sonnets, reviews and commentaries in the 21st century content posts are written by James Dwyer. CT will update with new posts throughout the year, alternating between political commentaries, sonnets, music & film reviews, satire, essays and good ol’ CT back-issues. It is hoped that something like a brand new issue of CT will be ready to post by Spring 2025.
